Things To Know About Organic Led Lighting

By April Briggs

This system of technology is commonly known to be a current technology that generates efficient, thin and radiant displays. In this article the application of the technology will be expounded further showing clearly the distinction between passive and active technology of matrix. The term active matrix and passive matrix talk about diode display method. When dealing with passive matrix is where there is limitation of size and resolution though it is easy and cheap as compared to active matrix. In case of active matrix it mainly depends on capacitors for storage to preserve the row pixels thus allows large resolution while also supporting large size display with an array of active matrix. This system of organic led lighting is very hard to create though they have no limitations when it comes to size, resolution restrictions still maintaining efficiency.

Passive technology applies easy control scheme by allowing one to control each line simultaneously with a sequence of row in a display. The pixels in this system are always off due to lack of storage capacitor.

How to create a panel. To come up with a diode several simultaneous steps are followed. The step starts by cleaning a substrate, come up with back plane by circuitry driving and switching, depositing and arranging the organic layers in a pattern. Eventually encapsulate entire system to protect it from moisture, oxygen and dust damage.

The first gadgets to utilize this technology applied passive matrix and this included sub displays on phone and also the automobile radio decks. These displays were characterized with one or two colors and were usually small. In the late 2008 and early 2007 active matrix technology was introduced in the market creating a platform for bigger and larger mobile video displays, digital cameras and mobile phones.

Companies such as Samsung and Philips are among the largest consumers of this technology. Philips already produces glass panels that are flexible and still in process of coming up with plastic panels that are bendable. Philips on the hand is focused on producing efficient, functional, bright and homogenous panels.

This technology can use several materials. The crucial division is between the bigger molecule that is the passive diode and the small molecule. Small molecules are commonly used for commercial purposes because they are perceived and known for their efficiency than passive emitting diode.

Just like any other technology, this idea has its share of challenges bases on industries they are to be used. Their production is soluble based, performance of soluble organic diodes is quite satisfactory, encapsulation of diode that is flexible, and lifespan of material. Reducing the evaporation process has also proved to be quite a challenge and the possibilities of system expansion.

The benefits of organic diode are quite many. They utilize plastic materials, use of lighter organic layer or materials in the system, very flexible and thin compared to LED layers.

Samsung Company is currently concentrating on production of small but flexible panels that can be applied in wearable gadgets and cell phones. It is specializing in production of five to ten inch displays for tablets and other mobile phones. It is believed that this technology has not been fully exploited and that in the near future such companies with still increase their production capacities.
