Some Tips To Install A Pocket Door Frame

By Andrea Davidson

A pocket door frame is often installed to conceal a certain door. This makes a certain room versatile enough and because it would simply be isolated to different areas of the house if possible. This can be a better way of maximizing the space of your living rooms. You can even accomplish it all by yourself if you are equipped with the right knowledge and patience as well. To aid you in the whole process, some effective tips are provided.

Distinguish whether a certain wall that you picked is an excellent candidate for your installation. The wall should be wide to accommodate the size that is twice the door. You would also check whether a certain wall is bearing a heavy load. You can identify this by simply checking the placement of your wall in the house.

Check whether the wall has any electrical wirings or maybe there are pipes that is beneath it. Look for various switches and some electrical outlets to assure safety. If you have some attics or basement perhaps, you can further reroute some wires in it. But, if pipes are present in it, you cannot place a frame.

Use a saw with a metallic blade in changing the header and see to it that it can cut the nails for you to take out the jamb. A certain blade that is made for woods must also be used in removing all the boards. To create a shallow cut, always do it carefully. Make use of the other portion of your drywall that is seen in the door to form a certain frame that will be used for the other header.

Remove the existing door by simply pulling it off from the molding. This will often create a certain gap which can be used to access the shims. Use a saw over the cluster of nails that is surrounding the shims. Always tip the blade of the saw downwards to cut shallowly into the drywall and take it away from the studs.

Take the drywall away from the header and make sure to leave a margin which is two to three inches from the ceiling. You could use a reciprocating saw to remove it as well. Cut the studs to create more room for another frame. Also, cut the nails that combines the studs to its soleplate.

Find out the dimension of the header and add about three to four inches to its length and add it further to the tallness of the soleplate. This is important most especially if you have a carpeted floor. Brackets can be placed to the floor simply if there are no carpets.

Cut the top of the stud to a particular length to create a certain support for another header. Know the measure of the rough opening and put the newer stud in it and observe a distance that is similar to its opposing side. Put the newer header with the use of some nails and screws and cut and install it to the soleplate in the floor.

End the entire installation of the pocket door frame depending on the instructions of your manufacturer. Make sure that when you are framing, the opening must be plumb and your header must be at level or it might not slide perfectly. You may use trim screws in the jamb to have it more unnoticeable. You can either paint it depending on the instructions to avoid moisture from destroying it.
