An Overview Of Fencing Lancaster Pa

By Kimberly Olson

One of the most interesting and classiest of all combat sports is none other than fencing. Fencing lancaster pa is known to be the sport of a gentleman and is known to be the primary duel medium for knights and honorable men during the medieval era in Europe. Today, it is a very well loved sport by many people in a lot of countries including America and the United Kingdom.

Now if one is taking up this art, then the very first thing that he will learn would be the basic stance. This is known as the on guard stance wherein one will be putting his weight evenly on his both legs with the right leg in front. In this position, one will be able to maneuver his sword in any way that he would want in order to disarm his opponent.

After one has learned the most basic stance, then the next thing that he will have to learn would be the footwork. The first type of footwork that one will be learning is the advance which is the most basic offense move. In order to do this, one has to just lift up his leading leg, skip forward and bring his back foot forward to end up in the on guard stance again.

The second footwork technique that one must learn would be the retreat. Now the retreat is actually the exact opposite of the advance wherein one will move his hind leg before his front leg to go backwards. This is often used as a defense technique instead of an offensive one.

After one has already perfected the footwork, then after that he will be learning the basics of attacking. The very first attack that one has to learn is the thrust because this is the most common attack that one has to learn. Basically this is a stabbing move wherein one will outstretch his arm and lunge his legs to stab the heart.

The next attack that one would learn is the disengagement which is more of a counter attack instead of an offensive move. Basically, this is done when the opponent would try to do a thrust. One would do a spiral or circular movement with his wrist to first parry the attack then he can do a thrust of his own and stab his opponent.

Now another very useful technique that one can use in order to surprise the opponent is called the glide. To do the glide, one has to first point his blade slightly up and slowly advance to his opponent. At the same time, he can slap the blade and jab his opponent with small strikes.

So basically, those are some of the beginner moves that a beginner fencer will learn when he takes up his class. As one can see, this sport is quite a fierce one even though it does look like in the movies. Some of the best schools can be located in cities like Akron, PA where this sport is extremely popular.
