Successfully Creating A Rustic Country Home Decor

By Anita Ortega

Interior design plays a very big role in how people feel when they are within a particular space. Of course, tastes differ dramatically from one person to the next, so what they choose should be in keeping with their own lifestyle and taste. That said, learn how to create a rustic country home decor with ease and affordability.

Most people do understand that rustic design provides a comfortable and cozy setting perfect for any family. The wonderful thing about it is that it is quite easy to accomplish in an affordable manner. For instance, the majority of the items needed can be picked up a flea markets and garage sales.

Properly done, the end result can easily be described as charming and endearing. However, it would require using natural woods that are aged, either naturally or manually. The aim is to achieve both a comfortable and modest outcome, with simple lines.

Just like in a country home or cottage in the mountains, wood floors are essential for this design scheme. Do not, however, opt for high polished finishes, as this is not in keeping with rustic design. They should be matte, either through waxing or polishing, or possibly painted in subtle tones. Throw a beautiful area rug over them for added patterns, textures, and color. Choose furniture, preferably made of pine, and kind of rough in appearance. Sprinkle a few handcrafted objects about, and the room is starting to take shape.

The all-important rocking chair should be incorporated in the living room or a bedroom. Choose wicker furniture or pine ladder-backed chairs, or even benches. When it comes to any tables, make sure they are rough or weathered in appearance.

Accessories are very important to complete the look, and that would include baskets for storage of any type. Be sure to incorporate some hurricane lamps and some kerosene lamps. The lighting in the room should include wall sconces made of brass or wrought iron, in addition to a similar chandelier.

Traditional rustic country is all about neutral tones as well as greens, blues, and reds. Mix and match these throughout, without going overboard. To ensure this is kept under control, use two or three, but not more.

The bedroom can be beautifully decorated in a rustic design using a quilt, for starters. Weathered trunks are extremely popular, and would look fabulous at the foot of the bed. For the headboard, on a budget, recycle an old door. Consider installing some open shelves made of pine and dress them up with some interesting rustic accessories.

One can have a lot of fun in the kitchen when decorating in this manner. Consider installing a pot rack, made of wrought iron and embellished with cast iron or copper pots. Place a large pine table in the center of the space with chairs of different designs and top them each with matching cushions. If space allows, bring in a butcher block island which also provides more counter space, and facilitates food preparation, while lending some great visual effects.
