Create Your Own Private Getaway With Chicago Patio Furniture

By Gwen Lowe

Finding a place to just sit and think can be difficult when you live with a large family or in a small house. One way to avoid the problem is by putting some Chicago patio furniture on the back porch. Even a chair to sit in and a table for a drink would give you a place to sit and relax.

You do not have to have a nice, formal patio to create your own space. Put up a simple awning or get a simple, poled gazebo for cover from the sun or rain. Over time, you may decide to have a roof built out over the concrete area, but it is not necessary. During the nice weather, you will not need any covering to enjoy your space.

Over the course of the next couple of weeks, use your little area when you need time alone. While out there, envision what it is you want the area to be. Decide weather or not you want it to be a place the family uses for different occasions, or if you want it to be an area only you use.

Adding in a table and chairs for family outdoor meals, or to play some games in the evening, might be a good idea. The main thing is to keep it electronics-free. You do not want it to end up being the place the kids go for their video games. As long as you keep it to family time things only, you should be able to maintain your private area too. Just e sure to explain to everyone that when you are out there, you are not to be disturbed.

Create a space that reflects your interests. The rest of the house has input from everyone, how big of a television you have, what type of furniture, even the decorations you put on the walls is influenced by everyone. This should be your own area, there is no need to rush in furnishing it.

You could have a simple table with chairs around it, or have a loveseat and a few chairs. Add in an end table or a coffee table and it could become a pleasant sitting area. Have a nice luncheon with friends or even conduct a business meeting and not be interrupted by everyone in the house.

Of course, weather is going to be a big factor in what you do with your patio. When shopping for furnishing, you want to be sure to get things that will not be destroyed when they get wet. Resin wicker is a very good option, and looks both formal and cozy at the same time. Pick out cushions that can be easily maintained, and you will have a very nice sitting area.

Now that you have a nice, comfortable area to relax and entertain your friends, you may want to have a roof and even some screen walls built to enclose it. This does not have to be a costly or elaborate project, you just want to be able to use the area when the weather is not perfect. A firepit or chiminea can be used to stay warm in the winter, and then a misting system will keep you cool in the summer months, making the area usable year round.
