By Lorrie Sykes

Sometimes you get bored with your flooring that you decide to give a makeover providing that is not pricey. A fast and easy way to make your floor more attractive is by using vinyl. If you are pressed for time and you want something that is easy and fast to install, you can use peel and stick vinyl tiles.

Vinyl floor slabs are usually used in the bathrooms and kitchens since they are normally exposed to high moisture. They are resistant to moisture, easy to install and inexpensive, making them ideal for the homeowners on a budget. One of the advantages of self adhesive slabs is that they can look like other types of more expensive flooring.

Most of the vinyl slabs sold today has already an adhesive back to them. These tiles come with an already applied glue with a thin sheet of cover and all you have to do is peel the thin sheet of plastic cover and paste it on the floor firmly. It is a great merchandise that makes installation a bit easier.

They are available in different shapes and designs around the market. They can imitate linoleum, stone, or wood finishes and other expensive materials and can even be painted on. Loud sounds like those made by stomping feet can be suppressed by decreasing echoes.

These flooring materials are also available in rolling sheets or by thin square slabs, whichever the buyer prefers or depending on what kind of space you have. If you have a perfectly rectangular or square space, rolling sheets are a good choice. However, they are not best for other types of spaces that are not rectangular or square.

If your existing floor is in great condition, you do not need to put an underlay when applying self sticking slabs. If you stick the slabs right against each other, there would be no need for a grout. The project could be achievable in a short time other than being simple and inexpensive.

Before sticking the slabs, you need to set up the floor where you want to place them. The surface must be smooth, flat, and hard. If there are bumps in the floor, you need to scrape them especially old glue, and the holes in the floor should be filled.

Apply primer so that the adhesive would stick better to the flooring. Ask for a recommendation on the primer if your manufacturer does not recommend you one. The primer prepares the floor by sealing the pores of the subfloor making a smooth base and allows the paint or a material to adhere better to the surface.

When installing, start in the middle of your room outwards. You can also start by laying all of the peel and stick vinyl tiles first before sticking it in place. Make sure to lay the tiles as close as possible so that there will be no gaps the dirt can get into.
