Thriller Novels Make A Good Movie But Better Read

By Stephen Lee

In the modern world few people have time to sit down with a good book. Television and streaming from the internet have taken over from sitting down and enjoying a really good read. There is a wealth of literature which is also available online and thriller novels in particular often find their way onto our screens as a movie.

A lot of the top write of the genre get their books adapted into films. The tension and intrigue coupled with heroes and heroines lend themselves to the movie format. Good producers who work with authors often make very good films which are excellent entertainment but the book is often more enthralling than the movie.

When you read a novel you can immerse yourself in the narrative and conjure up your own image of the hero or heroine. A well written novel will have descriptions that leave you in no doubt about the beauty of the scenery without having to see it. In the same way you can imagine the mutilated corpse without the need for special effects and fake blood.

The heroines and heroes of these novels who discover plots for world domination or catch serial killers can become like one of the family. Many feature in a whole series of books and their character is revealed to the reader so you know how they are likely to react in any situation. Their looks are burned into the brain with phrases like buzz cut hair or tangled sun bleached locks.

When a well loved character is transferred to the silver screen sometimes the casting seems a little odd if you have read the books. The five foot three actor might bring in a good audience, but the character is clearly described as being a foot taller. The bad guy should be Irish not have an Australian accent. These deviations from the original can make you wonder if the producers have even read the book.

In some instances a movie can encourage someone to read the original work. This is a fantastic for authors to gain a new audience from the movie going public. Once introduced to the genre, the new reader may try other authors or more books in the same series. Whether fiction or factual material, reading can improve spelling, grammar and broaden a person's outlook on life.

The internet is a great way to find new authors and old favorites. There are a number of online bookstores and you can read reviews from other readers before choosing to buy. Often the sites will track what you are buying and suggest new books that you will like in the same genre.

If you prefer gadgets to paper, then there is a wealth of apps for all electronic devices to download and read books. Some sites allow free downloads of the first few chapters or the whole novel in the case of new authors. Nearly all the classic books have also been republished as e-books and as they are no longer copyrighted they are normally free. The thriller genre has been around for centuries and these classics are still a really good read.
