Things To Remember On How To Hold A Violin Properly

By Beryl Dalton

Passion is something that cannot be bought. But if you work on it well, you can even make money out of it. This does not mean though that it comes automatically. You have to pay effort and time to see your passion come to fruition. If you only keep on thinking about it, then it will never prosper. Acting on it is more important.

It does not matter what your passion is. If you love food, then you can always learn how to cook. Same goes for music. If you feel a certain attachment to it, then you surely wouldnt mind spending some time learning an instrument. Among the most common questions asked online is how to hold a violin properly. The popularity of this instrument has grown and now, more and more people across all ages are learning it. If you have the same interest, then browse through this short list of basic things you should know on how to hold it right.

First, you need to observe proper posture. There is a reason why mentors and music instructor place this thing on top of the list. Playing an instrument may take time and how you carry yourself can impact the comfort that you feel while on stage and the quality of music that you produce. Playing the violin can be done either by sitting or standing. Regardless of what you choose, you back needs to be straight with your feet flat on the floor.

Second, position the instrument well on your collarbone with your shoulder and left hand supporting it. This is a common challenge especially for beginners. Keeping the strings parallel to the ground by supporting the handle with your left hand can be tiring on your arms. The good thing is, the more you do it, the easier and lighter the violin becomes.

Right angling of head and chin for support is necessary. Unlike other instruments like the guitar and cello which can be supported by the lower part of your body, the violin draws it support from the upper portion. When you move along, placing it on your collarbone is no longer enough. You will need to secure it with your chin to prevent it from falling down.

Observe proper hand positioning. Now this is one of the most important given that playing this instrument relies mainly on the right position of your fingers. Just like playing the guitar, the right positioning of fingers is necessary to produce sounds. Once you start studying on how to read notes and to actually play it, you will have a better understanding on the importance of the right positioning.

Balance your fingers and wrist. They are connected to each other and must therefore move in synchrony. This is a real challenge given that you need to observe flexibility on your wrist and strength on your finger. The more you practice, the easier this balance becomes. The next thing you know, it comes in naturally.

Practice. The reason why people do not really learn in the end is their lack of consistency. Deciding to study violin should be coupled with commitment for you to see some results. Also, practicing does not only happen within a day or two, weeks or a month. You will have to learn a lot of things and you can practice as many times as you want. Those who are really great on their craft are those who does it everyday.

Passion that is not acted upon will soon vanish. Its like a burning lamp. Once you do not put in oil, its light will soon fade. Take time to learn and practice constantly. This is the best way to keep your skills up. And of course, share your knowledge to other people.
