How To Write Your First Engineering Reports And Proposals

By Etta Bowen

You must be precise, concise and posses good summarization skill if you want to be a good proposal and report writer. You must be able to explain your points clearly and include all relevant information that are necessary for Engineering Reports and Proposals if you want your project to come out a successful one. It is going to be hard to deliver what is required if you have n summarized and organizational skills.

Start by writing a small introductory paragraph that summarizes the whole thing. Usually, the summary has the overall description and ideas of the whole proposal. Your summary should discuss the purpose, intended or targeted audience, and explain how the proposal you intend to come up with is going to accomplish the established goals.

Your proposal should reflect a method or an overall procedure. There are instances where you may want to have an overreaching theory and if so, make sure you do not forget to include and describe it clearly in the proposal you are creating. The project cannot be fulfilled if there is no sufficient information to support it, so you should make sure you detail all the background and relevant resources required to fulfill the goals of your proposal.

Your proposal must include a projected timeline and the timeline must always be precise and in line with the goals and the purpose of the proposal. It is recommended that you have a summation for the timeline, as this will help you to see whether your budget and or funding agree with the proposal in question. Take enough time to review your timeline and summation as this plays an important role in making the project a success.

Decide what recourse and support you will need to make the project in question start and end successfully. Because delays in between is something you do not want to entertain, it would be prudent to make sure you clearly outline the resources you will need and if possible, explain the reason for each resource and support. Your resources and support should include actual and proposed cost as well.

Proposals cannot happen on their own; you have to write them right from the first to the last word. If you do not have any skills in writing proposals, hiring someone to do it for you will be the only option available for you. In that case, make sure you outline the qualification of the proposal and report writer without leaving out any important details about them.

The proposal you are writing needs to have a clearly explained summation checklist. You need to outline what you want included in the project and then outline what is not required and give the reasons why for the sake of being precise. It is important to note that final decisions about the project in question will be made based on the checklist and based on whether the directions were properly followed in writing the proposal.

Make a personal recommendation of the proposal. You should consider the proposed timeline, overall scope, methods and scope when writing your recommendation.
